What is Thando's?

Thando means love in Xhosa and is also our co-founder's, Taffi's, nickname (her South African girlfriends gave her this name during her summer internship in Johannesburg). Thando's is a lifestyle brand that provides a platform to showcase African inspired creativity while positively impacting the communities the designs come from. Read our story to find out more.

How does my purchase make an impact?

There are 3 ways that your purchase makes an IMPACT! 1) For fabric that we source from Nigeria, we purchase them directly from women in the fabric trade, which is a common way for most unskilled women to earn a living  2) We crowdsource designs from African artists and share a royalty with them from each purchase of shoe utilizing the respective artists art 3) We donate part of our sales proceeds to charitable causes in Africa that inspire the art behind the crowdsourced designs.

Are shoes the only thing you sell?

For the moment yes, but we believe we have a platform that can showcase other product categories. So we'd hate to restrict ourselves and the creativity that our community of artist brings.

Do you sell men's shoes?

For the moment no, but based on the various inquiries we've been getting, it is something that we are considering. #watchthisspace

Are your shoes comfortable?

Heck yea they are!! Our unique memory foam insole offers full protection to your sole and makes you feel like you're walking on a cloud. Our outsoles are also designed to be durable enough for city streets.

What size should I order?

If you are a half size, we recommend that you round up to the nearest whole size e.g. if you wear a size 7.5, you should order a size 8 in our shoes. Similarly we recommend that your order a full size up if you are a regular whole size and have a medium or wide width foot. If you have a narrow foot and are a regular whole size, we recommend your order that size.

Will my shoes stretch?

Yes, our shoes do give after a few wears. We liken them to a t-shirt because they mold to your foot's unique shape giving you the best fit.

Are your shoes machine washable?

You bet!, just follow the following instructions:

  • Use cold water and a little detergent
  • Put the washing machine on a delicate cycle
  • Air dry the shoes and DO NOT put them in the dryer

What if you sell out of a style that I'm interested in? Will you re-release it?

Unfortunately, if a shoe is sold out, you're pretty much out of luck because we only make limited quantities per style and do not re-release deisngs because we want all members of #teamthandos to feel like they are getting something special. So if you see something you like, we HIGHLY encourage you to get it

 My new shoes are damaged, so what do I do?

If your new shoes from thandos.com are damaged or you suspect a manufacturing defect, please send an email with the image of the imperfection, your order number and contact information to info@thandos.com so we can look into the issue further. We'll happily replace any shoes that are defected or damaged upon arrival

Where do I get myself a pair of Thando's shoes?

You can order our shoes on thandos.com. We currently ship to the continental 🇺🇸, 🇨🇦,  and the 🇬🇧. All prices on thandos.com are listed in USD. We are not responsible for any price adjustments due to exchange rates or country taxes. 

How do I know if my order was placed successfully?

After your order is submitted, you will be sent to an order confirmation page with your order number. You should also receive an email confirmation shortly after clicking Submit. After your order ships, we’ll send you a confirmation email with tracking information.

Can I cancel or modify my order after I’ve placed it?

We do our best to process and ship orders quickly. Once your order is placed, we have a very small amount of time to make any changes with the warehouse – if you need to make a change, please contact us as soon as possible with your order number and update request. We’ll do our best to accommodate this request.

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes we do! Our gift cards will be sent via email to the lucky recipient. Please allow 48 hours for the gift card to be sent. If the recipient hasn’t received it, please ask them to double check their spam email folder; if they still haven’t received the gift card, let us know and we can resend it!

How long does it take for my order to arrive after it has shipped?

Our shoes ship from New Jesrsey, so it really depends on where you live. Around 2-3 business days for those in the Midwest and East Coast, 4-5 business days for those in the Southwest and West Coast. We do offer expedited shipping options in case you if you can't wait to get your Thando's shoes!

My package was marked as delivered, but I didn’t receive it.

We’re sorry for any delay! Sometimes USPS tracking information can be incorrect, so it’s best to check with your local post office. Please also double check with any family members, friends, neighbors, pets, etc. who may have seen your package. If you can’t find it after 2 business days, please let us know and we can resolve the issue.
